The Resident Coordinator system encompasses all organizations of the United Nations system dealing with operational activities for development, regardless of their formal presence in the country. The Resident Coordinator’s system aims to bring together the different UN agencies to improve the efficiency and activeness of operational activities at the country level.
In Suriname, the United Nations system is represented by Richard Blewitt, he is the UN Resident Coordinator for Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Aruba, Curacao and Sint Marteen.
The main areas of focus of the Office of the Resident Coordinator are:
- Country analysis, helping a well informed reading of the country context
- Planning / Result based management, in the context of the national processes and in coordination with the development community
- Monitoring and evaluation, in order to assess the effectiveness of the UN system’s contribution to national development
- Ensures effective communications and advocacy of UN activities
