This PAHO course aimed to contribute to the structural framework, providing guides to preparedness and response to multiple hazards/ incidents irrespective of the size or complexity. The MCM focuses on the establishment and maintenance of a functional Mass Casualty Management system as a mechanism for maximizing the saving of lives, preserving function and reducing suffering in a mass casualty incident. It emphasizes prompt response with early pertinent information-sharing, scene coordination and patient management by response agencies, stressing an inter-sectoral perspective. The involvement and coordination of all responders including Health, Police, Fire and Rescue services, Red Cross, Civil Defense, Military, Civil Aviation and Non-government organizations were refined during this training in the district of Nickerie.
