The high-level conference High Forest Cover and Low Deforestation Resource Mobilization will be held by the government from 12 to 15 February in Royal Torarica. National stakeholders and international guests were also invited to this conference.
Tropical forests are receiving increasing attention worldwide due to, among other things, their biodiversity and mitigating role against climate change. With its high forest cover and low deforestation rate, Suriname and other similar countries belong to the High Forest Coverage Low Deforestation(HFLD) countries. Suriname, the most forested country in the world in relation to the land surface, committed itself at the UN Conference on Climate Change COP23 in 2017 to keep its forest cover at 93%. The international community has been called upon to provide support through scientific and technological assistance, expertise and financial resources.
